I've used a similar product that was a full 1 inch thick. I ripped it into 1/2 inch strips and then milled it as you did. One thing I learned, if this is the same type of product, was to wipe the cut edges down with acetone to seal them, cleans up the roughness. The ones I made have lasted 3 years and are still GTG; of course, I always use the same saw and blade combination
