I just purchased the EZ Smart system along with a dust port for my makita 7 1/4 saw. There is only one youtube video that slightly mentions how to attach this port. It states that you should use a belt sander but does not show it in action. Any help would be appreciated. I plan on installing it in the front of my saw. What grit did you use? Any other pointers? Thanks.

Hi William.
Start with a small drill first to make a hole. Enlarge the hole with the largest drill that you have. This is going to speed up the sanding. Make the hole about 2-1/2" from the front of the housing. We use a step drill (1-1/2") then we use a belt sander with 80 coarse belt. Anything you have is going to work. Make sure you don't eat the magnesium dust. Not good for you. ![]() If you have a tabletop belt sander, hold the saw against the front of the sander. Make sure you clean the sander before and after use. Magnesium and wood dust can start a nice fire. If you have a hand held sander, hold the sander as you saw on the video. welcome to ez. |

I ruined a cheap forstner bit drilling out the pot-metal shield of a Dewalt using a drill press and clamps. Going into it I figured the bit would not live through the operation. It was fast though. Not sure how it would work on the magnesium.
